In March this year, Australia experienced severe flooding, particularly in New South Wales. Torrential rain caused flood waters to rise quickly and forced over 18,000 people to evacuate across the state.

Crisis-trained chaplains from the Billy Graham Rapid Response Team (BG-RRT) deployed alongside Samaritan’s Purse disaster relief teams to offer emotional and spiritual support to homeowners who lost everything. We praise God that the chaplains were able to meet and pray with over 150 people, including some who made decisions for Jesus Christ.

One chaplain, Richard, shared, “Many people are traumatised by the disaster and don’t know where to start; this is where chaplains will meet and talk with them. We spend time asking questions and helping them to begin moving forward.”

Richard was able to meet with Brad,* a homeowner in Port Macquarie, who lost everything in the floods. Richard was able to build a relationship with him, and at the end of the conversation Brad prayed and made a decision to follow Jesus. Richard presented Brad with a gift of a Bible and connected him with a local church.

We praise God for Brad, and for all the men, women and families these chaplains comforted. Please continue to pray for the families that have lost their home, that they may find hope in Jesus.
